About Robert Anderson

Robert Anderson was born in Seattle, Washington. His childhood and early adult years were spent in central Wisconsin. Robert graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, with a degree in Limnology Fresh Water Ecology.

Robert moved to Sacramento, California after college to pursue his love of water and to guide river rafting trips. His professional art career began in 1994 after working several years as a maintenance engineer. Robert discovered a passion for working with steel on a large scale.

The garden kaleidoscope design is an original concept that Robert developed after being introduced to kaleidoscopes by his wife. Robert decided to design a kaleidoscope using flowering plants that could be used outdoors in a garden. Robert has created the interactive living sculptures since 1997.

Working with steel is an integral part of Robert’s life. Much of each day is spent handling steel in the shop. He is committed to his work, and gladly gives it his all. He is responsible for all creative aspects of his work. Click Gallery to see an overview of his projects.

Robert’s work is installed in a variety of public places and private residences. Click Installations to see a list of locations. Several works have been purchased as memorials. Others celebrate art in communities, or lift spirits at hospitals and churches.
